Covid-19 Policy

Please review our current Covid-19 Policy (available (insert link)), and acknowledge regarding, understanding, and agreeing to it below.

We want to approach Covid-19 with carefulness and thoughtfulness for all those involved in a Morgan Expedition trip. We follow the evolving, and best available public health guidance.

It’s important to keep in mind not only the students and staff of Morgan Expeditions, but the people in the countries we travel to, and ultimately, the families and friends students return to at the trip end.

  1. We highly suggest, although not necessary, that all eligible students (all staff are fully vaccinated) are fully vaccinated against Covid-19, and to stay up to date with their vaccines.
  2. Must be in compliance with travel requirements for countries we visit. Requirements are constantly changing, Morgan Expeditions will keep you updated with requirements leading up to the trip.
  3. This policy is fluid, and will change with time as the Covid-19 pandemic changes with time.

Meal Policy

Food is super important for each trip and we aim to make our meals healthy and yummy! Our groups buy food together, prepare food together, and eat together. With the help of the leaders, the students prepare all the food. The group experience enters the kitchen as it’s a great way to foster teamwork, connection, and consideration of your fellow group members.

Allergies and Intolerances

We know there are many students who have intolerances and food allergies. We ask the parents and guardians of prospective students to keep the following in mind:

Most meals are prepared in basic kitchens (sometimes these kitchens are even outdoors). The grocery stores we will purchase our food from may have limited supply of certain ingredients. It’s important to not that many grocery stores are not like the supermarkets we are used to back home. Due to the above it is possible meals are prepared and served in allergen-contaminated kitchens. Many allergen-free/gluten-free foods are not readily available. We will do the best we can to prepare foods in allergen-free environment although it cannot be guaranteed.

We aim to maintain each students’ well-being to the fullest. We want to prepare healthy and tasty foods. We look to recognize and respond to allergic reactions. It is expected that if a student is attending with a known allergy, he/she will bring along the necessary medicine if there is a reaction. We will be in an area where emergency personnel have access to us in a timely manner. Some of our day adventures will lead us to areas that are more remote and emergency services may not be easily or readily available.

Allergy Questionnaire

If there is an allergy or intolerance please make sure that it was noted in the initial student information form. We will then consider whether this trip is right for the student if the allergy can be easily accommodated. If there is a concern about the allergy we will contact the parent/guardian to discuss the available grocery stores, emergency services and the students’ ability to be aware of food they eat throughout their trip. If it seems the student may run into significant challenges throughout the trip we will have to deny admittance.

Working Together to Navigate Allergies/ Intolerances

We are committed to the health and well-being of each student. We aim to have clear channels of communication prior to the trip to address allergies and intolerances. Therefore we must ensure:

  • Parents/ guardians clearly describe their students’ allergies or intolerances, the maturity level of the student regarding their allergy, and capability to have self-autonomy over his or her allergy or intolerance. A
  • Students take on an active role in helping to manage their allergies such as eating only foods they know are safe, reading food label when needs, and seeking a trip leader if they are expecting a reaction.

Vegetarians, Vegans, and Special Diets

It is assumed there will be many vegetarians that are interested in our trips. We always plan that those with a specialized diet will enjoy meat or dairy-free meals. We are happy to accommodate those students that have specialized diets, but they must understand they will share in the group’s meals but will simply have the meat portion withheld. We will have some meals that will not involve a meat, for example, fresh chick pea salads. But when meat is used in our meals, and we usually only use chicken, the meat will be left out. For example a chicken sandwich  with lettuce, tomato, and cheese- the student will have a sandwich of only lettuce, tomato, and cheese with the chicken being left out. We will accommodate these students to the best of our ability. In fact, usually at least one of the trip leaders is a vegetarian so we are sympathetic to dietary restrictions. That being said, it is impractical to make an entirely different, specialized meal for students who are vegan, vegetarian, etc., so the group meals will be the same for everyone only with the meat/ dairy products left out for those who do not consume them.

Medication Storage Policy

Our programs are usually in multiple places and outdoor so we do not stay put in a single location. Therefore, with the varied activities of this program, we cannot guarantee refrigeration on Morgan Expedition trips. Unfortunately, we cannot provide refrigeration or cooling for students’ medication.

Electronics Policy

At Morgan Expeditions we have high expectations for each student. We have the expectation that each student will be enthusiastic, positive, amicable and helpful to each of their leaders; they are expected to understand what type of expedition that fits their interests and abilities; we expect the students to be physically prepared for the adventures; they must know that smoking, any tobacco products, drinking alcohol or using any drugs (other than their prescribed medication) is strictly prohibited. Therefore, Morgan Expeditions has the right to remove any student for any reason- which includes, but not limited to: breaking the rules, misbehaving or an inability to fully participate or to keep up physically. If a student is dismissed, they receive no refund and all costs, including airfare, are the sole responsibility of the parent/ guardians.

Phones

We permit cell phones to be used in transit leading up to the trip. Once a student has arrived to their destination, they must turnover their cell phone to the group leaders. We want to foster independence and self-reliance so students cannot use their cell phone during the trip. Text messages, calls, emails are not permitted during the trip. However, upon arrival students are able to use their phones to notify the parent/guardian they have arrived. Also, once students have completed the trip they are expected to notify their parent/guardian the trip has been completed. This can be used on one of the trip leaders’ phones or their own personal phone. In the case of an emergency the student will be able to contact their parent/guardian. Upon arrival, all students will be collected and held throughout the trip by group leaders. We will provide logical, reasonable steps to stop damage, theft, or loss to phones, but we take no responsibility for phones that are lost, damaged, or stolen. We will not make any reimbursements or replace any stolen, damaged, or lost phones.

Other Electronics

Cameras and other action cameras (such as a GoPro) are permitted. We allow eReaders (such as Kindles), but these are not recommended. All other electronics, (iPods, iPads, GPS, or similar devices) are not permitted. We only allow eReaders that are used solely for reading. That being said, we highly suggest bringing a paperback book if you are going to read during the trip. Again, we are not responsible for any electronics that are lost, damaged or stolen. We will not make any reimbursements or replace any stolen, damaged, or lost phones.

Communication

Morgan Expeditions’ office is available from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week. Although we are not able to always answer calls immediately, we will respond as soon as we are available. That being said, the Morgan Expeditions office is ‘remote’ and is sometimes based in different countries. We use the app WhatsApp for all communication that is outside of email. You can reach us through our WhatsApp number at +1 513 833 6097. The leaders you will reach through this number are the same leaders that will be leading your students’ trip.

To foster a group dynamic that is whole, present, and independent we ask you not to contact us during the trips so group leaders are present, but also so students are self-reliant.

If a student is to have any type of illness or injury, we will keep you updated about the students’ condition. We will explain the prognosis and what treatment will be used. We will, to the best of our ability, make available the medical personnel that are helping your student.
