Adventures and volunteering in tropical Costa Rica

School group trips are fully customizable to deliver exactly what your group has in mind!

Day 1

Arrival at SJO, Drive to Manuel Antonio

When you arrive at Juan Santamaría Airport in San José, you'll be warmly welcomed by your trip leaders, Chas and Mary Cate Morgan. They'll ensure you're well-equipped for the journey to Manuel Antonio by providing refreshing wraps, snacks, and drinks. You'll travel comfortably in an air-conditioned bus to reach your week-long accommodation—an intimate hotel situated along the border of Manuel Antonio National Park.

Day 2

Morning: Snorkeling

After a traditional Costa Rican breakfast or lunch of gallo pinto, fruits, and juice, your group will head out for a morning or afternoon of snorkeling. The boat will make stops for swimming and snorkeling in the bay.

Afternoon: Manuel Antonio National Park

In the afternoon, you'll explore the nearby Manuel Antonio National Park with a guide, and have the chance to swim at the park's private beach before returning to the hotel for dinner.

Day 3

Volunteer at an Animal Sanctuary

Today, you'll have the opportunity to volunteer at Kids Saving the Rainforest, an animal sanctuary in the area. You'll learn about the sanctuary's operations and meet its amazing staff and veterinarian, and then help with projects around the facility. This will be a full-day activity, and after lunch at the sanctuary's restaurant, you'll continue working on the day's project. In the evening, you'll visit the nearby beach for some relaxation before dinner.

Day 4

Nauyaca Waterfall and Surfing

Cool off in the natural pools that stem from the Nauyaca Waterfall after we check out the massive waterfall. Our group will load up into pick-up trucks that are 4x4-equipped to handle the jungle for the fun ride to the waterfalls.

Day 5

Canopy Tour

On this day, you'll see the rainforest from a different perspective, the canopy. You'll walk deep into the rainforest with your zip-line guides to a series of platforms and experience a monkey-eye view of the rainforest. You'll also have the chance to encounter animals that are normally very difficult to view from the ground.

Volunteer at a Turtle Reserve

After a lunch break, you'll head to the Playa Tortuga Reserve for a volunteer experience. You'll meet the researchers running the reserve, learn about their sea turtle conservation program, and then dedicate your time to helping with one of the numerous ongoing projects at the reserve.

Day 6

Canyoning

Today, you'll go canyoning with certified guides through streams and waterfalls. All equipment meets climbing and canyoning safety standards. We'll unwind from the adventure by having a free afternoon at the hotel where you can go souvenir shopping, spend a final afternoon at the beach, or relax by the pool.

Less than a five-minute walk from our accommodation are the calm waters of the Pacific Ocean!

Day 7

Tarcoles Bridge on the way to San Jose

On the last full day of the trip, you'll visit the Tarcoles Crocodile Bridge and explore downtown San José.

Mercado Central and Jade Museum

At the Jade Museum, you'll learn about the beautiful jade artifacts and the ancient tribes that lived in Costa Rica thousands of years ago. You'll then visit the famous Mercado Central, where you can buy souvenirs and try the famous ice cream of Lolo Mora. In the evening, you'll have a final dinner as your Costa Rican adventure comes to an end. In the evening, you'll have a closing dinner in San José.
